Colleagues and Friends:
We are delighted to launch Creative Catalyst, the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) blog.
The work of a local, public/private arts agency often appears complex and difficult to decipher. Through Creative Catalyst, we hope to raise the veil on much of the work of HAA, and engage our constituency in a more immediate and personal way in not just what the work is, but why we do it and how it benefits our greater community. From grantmaking and cultural policy, to public engagement through civic art and placemaking, folklife/traditional arts and arts/cultural marketing, to capacity building and expansion of business leadership and cultural investment, our goal is provide thoughtful insight into the inner workings of this agency.
Ultimately, we hope Creative Catalyst becomes a place for thoughtful dialogue about the tremendous role arts and culture can play in our city and beyond, but also a place to explore challenges in the field and the community in which we work.
Possibly more important than exploring the work of HAA, we also want to focus on the many visual, performing, literary and film artists/organizations who create the art HAA invests in, the implications and results of successful cultural policy, and the many lives HAA is honored to touch through our work. HAA is only as successful as the field it serves. We look forward to sharing stories of the field – the human face and civic experience that bring HAA’s mostly behind the scenes work to life, always creatively, often passionately, and sometimes challengingly.
Welcome to a look inside Houston’s cultural catalyst.
