BRINGING PROJECTS TO LIFE

Wondering about the cultural activities that make life in Houston more vibrant and interesting? You might not realize that Arts Project Grants help fund many of these activities, providing the resources needed to bring them to fruition! Applications for the 2017 Arts Project Grants are opening soon, and we can help you determine whether your project qualifies or not.
The first step in the process is to review our grant guidelines. Next, we recommend taking a look at how some of last year’s recipients are putting their grants to use, and then coming to one of our free workshops.
Here are a few of the projects funded by the Arts Project Grant in FY16:
- Horse Head Theatre received a grant for its immersive, one-man show, WHALE, inspired by Herman Melville’s classic Moby-Dick. Audiences enjoyed entering the belly of the beast—a great white dome structure brought to life by projection art and soundscape from the Buffalo Bayou.
- Nigerian American Multicultural Center received a grant for AfriFest, a festival of African arts, culture and entertainment. The festival showcased the rich and diverse cultures of African countries and included musical performances, food, art, and fashion.
- NobleMotion Dance received a grant for Storm Front, which explored environmental issues in modern society—through dance and technology by incorporating rain, wind, snow and debris—and included live projections for a total theater experience.
